STATISTICS ON DUAL CITIZENSHIP
Number of citizens of Latvia who hold dual citizenship in accordance with the Citizenship LawIn accordance with regulations of the Immigration Law for the transition period, those citizens of Latvia and their descendants who either fled the country in fear of the oppressive regimes of the Soviet Union and Germany or were deported from Latvia in the period from June 17, 1940, to May 4, 1990, and subsequently could not return, and had since been naturalized abroad, could register as citizens of Latvia in the Population Register by July 1, 1995. The regulations, thus, allow for dual citizenship on the above terms. If, however, individuals register as citizens of Latvia after July 1, 1995, they have to renounce citizenship of the other country.
