THE LATVIAN NATIONAL CONTACT POINT

According to the Article 1 of the Regulation No 7 “The Statutes of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs” of the Cabinet of Ministers, Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) is responsible for developing and implementing the Latvian asylum and immigration policy, establishing the legal status and making registration of persons.

Taking into consideration the before mentioned, since 2003 OCMA regulary participates at the EMN meetings as an observer. In the 25th October, 2005, Cabinet of Ministers confirmed OCMA as Latvian national contact point of EMN.

The main benefits from participation at the EMN project are:

opportunity to receive objective, reliable and comparable information on all aspects of migration and asylum;
opportunity to perform necessary researches and analyses using the information available in this database.

OCMA is the main institution responsible for developing the Latvia’s asylum and immigration policy and the participation at EMN provides OCMA with up-to-date information on migration processes in other Member States. (OCMA also provides Member States with up-to-date information about situation in Latvia).

In case of necessity, state institutions and non-governmental organizations, co-operating with the national contact point, will provide a support in collection of the necessary information.
